| The
base and stem of this candlestick was made from a single piece of mild
steel originally 50 x 50 x 125mm.
"The base was made by heating the whole bar, quenching half and then forging on a power hammer until it was about 80mm square. The top was then evenly drawn out until it was 1.6 metres high! This was bent into a spiral - it took a long time to make it even. "The sconce (dish) at the top was power hammered with a 40mm square tool, dished on a flypress and punched with a square hole for the spike." |
