July 1997 I visited St Bridget's (Solidarity) Church in Gdansk, Poland,
which is packed with modern art as gratitude for the release from communism.
I was very impressed by a screen commemorating the history of the Polish
Eagle made by Francisco Zulewski. At his workshop he showed me the tools
used to make the East European Baroque Ironwork: thick metal incised and
formed by chisels and punches. Returning home, I made a few of the tools
and experimented."
